When it came time to wash and detangle my hair, it was anything but exciting, and the process felt like it took hours. Needless to say, the tears were real , and no detangling spray ever worked on this mane. It almost felt like the only solution to making all of our lives easier was a relaxer. This takes a little bit longer than your typical salon trip. The process starts with your stylist sectioning off your dry hair and mapping off the areas where the relaxer will be applied. Once application begins, you can expect around coats of relaxer formula applied to each section.
Your stylist will then follow by rinsing it out starting from the first section it was applied. Your shampooing session comes in after your entire head is rinsed, then your stylist will most likely apply a deep conditioner or masque. When my hair dryer session is up, my stylist will then blow out my dry hair to make it straight, and the process is complete.
How often you have to do this ultimately depends on the length of your hair. We recommend using a microfibre towel to quickly dry your hair. The relaxed hair is often porous and fragile, making it more susceptible to split ends. Keep on top of trimming the ends of your relaxed hair to prevent spilt ends travelling up your hair and causing more damage. NB: Hair care can become easy and quick without you relaxing your hair.

If your hair is already brittle, breaking or bleached, avoid relaxing your hair altogether. Wait a few months to give your roots a chance to grow out before you relax again.
Once your hair is relaxed, it requires some TLC. Handle it delicately and give your strands extra hydration. Regularly moisturize your hair by deep conditioning it weekly. And, limit the use of heat styling tools like flat irons and blow dryers. Applying heat can further weaken chemically-treated hair and cause breakage. In fact, continuously wearing tight styles that tug on your hairline can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
Many consumers falsely believe that relaxers without lye are safe.
